Getting kids to clean their teeth can be a challenge, so Arm & Hammer created a toothbrush that plays music in their heads using bone conduction while brushing. While this may seem like a strange use of technology, anything that makes parents’ lives easier usually isn’t too hard of a sell.

However, enterprising hacker Joe Grand decided that he wanted his to play tunes other than Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, or Hannah Montana. To this end, he tore down the Tooth Tunes, which is not really meant to be user-serviceable, replacing the guts inside with a custom audio board that can play music off of a microSD card at the press of a button.

The circuit itself features an ATtiny85, an LM4864 amplifier, and a MAX16054 push button on/off controller, all powered by three AAA batteries.

Although Grand doesn’t really say what he normally listens to on his toothbrush, we can only assume he’s replaced Miley with Billy Ray, or perhaps he tooth-listens to 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop” as an ironic nod to tooth decay.
