Let’s address the big, blocky, beige elephant in the room: the Commodore PET wasn’t what most people consider to be an attractive computer. Like me, you might still love the quirky ’70s design aesthetic, and the retro feel and importance of the computer itself may sway your opinion. Yet, as far as the average person is concerned, it’s just an ugly old computer.

However, retrocomputing enthusiasts and laymen alike can agree that Love Hulten’s PET De Lux is stunning. Inside the case is a Raspberry Pi 3 running emulators, classic games, and so on. But, the real beauty of the build is on the outside.

As you can see, it was designed with the same shape, proportions, and details as the original PET. In place of the original’s off-white plastic, the Pet De Lux features beautiful hand-crafted American walnut. There is a small chiclet keyboard like what was found on the original PET, and even a cassette deck—though the cassette itself doesn’t appear to do anything.

Along with the computer itself, Love Hulten also built a pair of wireless controllers modeled after the classic TAC-2. Put it altogether and you’ve got a beautiful classic with all the modern amenities you want. Unlike Hulten’s other creations, unfortunately, the PET De Lux isn’t for sale.
