While the company is barely relevant these days, Sega used to make some pretty awesome video games and consoles. Their third and fourth generation consoles, the Master System and the Genesis, were particularly popular. But, with the exception of the Dreamcast, none of Sega’s consoles were particularly good looking. Franklin Vanseizenberg’s steampunk’d Sega Master System II definitely fixes that.

The Sega Master System II was a revised version of the Master System that was smaller and a bit more affordable. It could still play Master System cartridges, but wasn’t very popular — probably because the Mega Drive had already been released. In any case, Vanseizenberg got their hands on one. Vanseizenberg is a steampunk artist, and so, naturally, they set out to turn the Sega Master System II into a Victorian-styled art piece.

Vanseizenberg doesn’t provide any detailed information about this build, so we can only go by what we see in the video. Most likely, the guts of the Master System II were simply transplanted into the new wood enclosure. That has a small CRT mounted on top to display the video games, and there’s a horn with a speaker for audio. On the front, there is a functional gauge for measuring the amperage. Finally, the power switch has been replaced with a shiny brass toggle switch.

It may not be any more functional than a standard Sega Master System II, but this steampunk’d version would certainly look a lot nicer sitting on an entertainment center.
