Turn a Tablet Into an Excellent HD Projector

Perhaps you’ve seen experiments where someone turns a smartphone or tablet into a so-so projector. Many of these projects are interesting, but would never substitute for your HD television, or even a normal office projector. As YouTuber “HAMMERLAND” shows in the video below, by taking the time to set this up with multiple lenses, a well-built enclosure, and a proper light source, the results can be quite good.

The image source for this projector is a disassembled Nexus 7 tablet, with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, meaning full HD display capability with a few pixels to spare. The disassembled screen is placed into a wooden enclosure with a 100 watt lamp installed behind it. Several lenses are used to focus the light from this lamp and the resulting image.

An adjustable assembly helps focus the final projector lens, and keystone correction (image distortion seen when an image isn’t projected straight onto a wall) can be adjusted manually in the horizontal plane, and using a servo in the vertical direction.
