When you were a kid, perhaps you had a walkie talkie that allowed you to communicate over radio frequencies with a simple “push to talk” interface. With Wi-Fi networks prevalent, why not take this idea to the next level with a Raspberry Pi in order to transmit voice signals over the Internet at the push of a button?

The “talkiepi” does just that, using a version of the Mumble voice chat package designed to work with a push button interface. Software for the build is available here, as well as the 3D print files that you’ll need to make the enclosure.

Besides something fun for kids to play with, it seems like this type of device would make an excellent intercom system, or even something for several people to use as a running voice chat setup.
