Usually when we cover wearables, we feature devices designed for some practical purpose like monitoring your blood pressure or counting how many steps you take throughout your day. But, there is a huge community of people who build electronic wearables for fashion and self-expression. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, all kinds of digital wearable jewelry is possible, including this tiny video pendant.

The video pendant was created by ðeshipu at Hackaday.io in response to requests that he make jewelry with the awesome ST7735S TFT display. The screen he used was just 0.9", which makes it perfect for use in wearables. It doesn’t have a very high resolution, but it’s enough to show recognizable images and animations. It’s also affordable, and should be less than $10 on your favorite cheap electronics site.

The display is mounted on a custom PCB along with a Microchip SAM D21 microcontroller and a rechargeable LIR1220 lithium ion battery. A micro USB port is used to charge the battery, and to connect the pendant to your computer so you can copy images. For now, it can only display static images, but ðeshipu has plans to write a GIF decoder so that it can show animations. The video pendant is still in development, but follow the project to find out how to get your hands on one when it’s finished.
